Navik (General Duties)
- Should pass a Board of Education accredited by the Council of Schools Education (COBSE) 10+2 in Mathematics and Physics.
Navik (domestic branch)
- There should be a class No. 10 Adopted by a board of education accredited by the Council on School Education (COBSE).
Mechanical
- Pass level 10 with a Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Telecommunications (Radio/Power) Engineering for a duration of 03 or 04 or
- Pass Levels 10 and 12 with a 02 or 03 Year Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Telecommunications (Radio/Electricity) Engineering.

Coast Guard Navik and Yantrik Selection Process |
The Indian Coast Guard is a multi-purpose organization responsible for safeguarding the country’s maritime interests. The Indian Coast Guard provides an opportunity to young and dynamic individuals to serve the nation in the capacity of Navik (General Duty/Domestic Service). In this article, we will discuss the complete selection process to become a Navik (GD/DB) in the Indian Coast Guard.
Candidates are required to bring the following documents for verification upon reporting at their respective Coast Guard Navik and Yantrik Exam Centers:-
- Valid original identification submitted/uploaded in the online application. (Aadhaar Card/Driving License/Passport/PAN Card/Voter ID Card)
- A color printout of the electronic admission ticket (black and white printouts are not allowed).
- Two passport-sized color photos with facial features similar to those uploaded in the online application.
SC/ST candidates only:
- Original caste certificate and 02 copy of self-certified SC/ST certificate.
- Canceled check page for NEFT payments.
- Original train/bus ticket.
- Download the travel form from the website to collect your TA.
Coast Guard Navik and Yantrik Written Exam
Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria and submit the required materials will be required to take a written test. The written test is designed to test candidates’ knowledge of mathematics, general knowledge, science, reasoning and English. The written test is objective and is given at various centers across the country. Details of each section of the written examination are as follows: –
Exam city
Candidates should give five preferences for the test city when applying for the Coast Guard Navik and Yantrik Stage 1 and Stage 2 processes. Candidates must fill out their first choice within 30 kilometers from their current residence/communication residence. If there is no “examination city” within 30 kilometers from the current address, the “examination city” closest to the current address should be selected first.
Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
Candidates who pass the written test will be required to take the Physical Fitness Test (PFT). The PFT is designed to test candidates’ physical fitness and endurance. PFT includes the following events:
- 1.6km run completed in 7 minutes
- 20 Squats (Uthak Baithak)
- 10 pushups
medical examination
Candidates who pass the PFT will undergo a medical examination to assess their suitability for coastal defense duties. Medical examinations are carried out at designated centers and by authorized civilian doctors.

Coast Guard Navik and Yantrik Merit List
A transcript will be prepared based on the results of the written examination. Candidates will be selected for training based on this merit list.

Selected candidates will undergo training at the Indian Coast Guard Training Centre. Training will consist of theoretical and practical sessions. The training is designed to prepare candidates for the duties of Indian Coast Guard Navik (GD/DB).
Basic training in Narvik (General Mission) and Narvik (Domestic Division) is tentatively scheduled to begin at INS Chilka on early/mid September 23, followed by at-sea training and specialized training for designated trades. Branch/industry assignments are based on service and performance requirements during basic training.
The selection process for Indian Coast Guard Navik (GD/DB) is very stringent and is designed to test the physical fitness, knowledge and stamina of the candidates. The selection process includes a written test, physical fitness test and physical examination. Candidates who clear the selection process will undergo training and will be appointed as Navik (GD/DB) in the Indian Coast Guard.
